02How an x402 payment works
- 01
Request
The client calls the service. Unpaid, it answers HTTP 402 with a PAYMENT-REQUIRED header: amount, asset, recipient, network.
- 02
Sign
The payer signs an EIP-3009 authorization for exactly that USDG amount to that recipient. No gas, no approval.
- 03
Send
The same request goes out again with the signature in PAYMENT-SIGNATURE.
- 04
Settle
The service verifies it, does the work, and the facilitator submits the authorization on Robinhood Chain.
- 05
Confirm
The answer carries PAYMENT-RESPONSE with the transaction. VANTOR reads that transaction back before calling it paid.
